The Florence Academy of Art
The main entrance is a theatrical volume. Lined with glass walls, its perceptual limits are in a state of constant flux. The backdrop is a tone of warm grey with gallery lighting that further heightens the atmosphere. Imagined as a sequence of spaces with varied spatial densities, the design preserves classicist qualities of the original school in Florence, while exploring alternate ideas to meet the new context. Designed in close collaboration with the Director & Principal Instructors at the school, this first US location of The FAA has exhibition spaces, working studios, projection spaces, and galleries.
