The spa was an experiment in discovering the optical qualities of glass. By laminating sheets of glass, its lightness & transparency are materially transformed into an iridescent thickness. Abstract expressionist painter, Mark Rothko, once observed that two feet of red is red, but eight feet is redder. Glass borrows from this phenomenon -- the deeper its length in plan, the greener it appears. Changing the length of each slat modulates the amount of light that can penetrate, creating a diaphanous space with different densities.

This student exploration was included at the 9th International Architecture Venice Biennale, the theme of the exhibit being Metamorph. The interstitial space of The Jyvaskyla Music and Art Center in Finland was imagined as a "forest". Micro-columns made from aluminium rods of different diameters, create a spatially dense experience with no single center & an ever-shifting periphery. Possibilities reconfigure with every ambient step and totality is never realized.

A similar installation explores the idea of ambivalence. In this speculative design for a skyscraper, colored rods are introduced within an array of dematerializing aluminium rods. The red rods close in the interval of space, and create a new volume inside the existing one. Borrowing from kinetic artist, Jesus Raphael Soto, the harp-like tessellations create a vibration that is real to the eye but has no material presence. The installation was made possible by the generous support and mentorship of architect and educator, Jose Oubrerie.
